The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is the chief deliberative, policymaking, and representative organ of the United Nations. Composed of all 193 Member States, each with equal voting power, the General Assembly serves as a global platform where international issues of peace, security, development, and human rights are debated and addressed. As the voice of the international community, the UNGA fosters dialogue, builds consensus, and adopts resolutions that reflect the collective will and aspirations of the world’s nations, especially in matters of equity and inclusivity.

The agenda — “Deliberation on Structural Reforms in the United Nations System to Ensure Equitable Representation of Developing Nations in Global Governance” — brings to the forefront a longstanding and urgent demand for democratization within the global decision-making framework. Despite representing the majority of the world’s population, developing nations often face systemic underrepresentation in key UN bodies, particularly within the Security Council and other high-stakes institutions.
This session will engage delegates in critically examining the structural imbalances within the UN system and exploring practical pathways to reform. Topics will include the expansion of permanent and non-permanent seats on the Security Council, the redistribution of voting power in financial institutions, and enhancing the role of Global South voices in agenda-setting processes. The aim is to craft inclusive solutions that uphold the principles of sovereignty, equity, and mutual respect — ensuring that global governance structures truly reflect the diverse realities and needs of the 21st century.
